FAQs
In Amboseli it is relatively easier to see large numbers of elephants at a time and especially with the background of the Mount Kilimanjaro. Lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and birds of the likes of flamingos, and pelicans are some of the animals that can be seen in the park.
It also draws visitors through attractions of red-dust elephants and the history of the two infamous Tsavo lions known as ‘Man-Eaters of Tsavo’. You will also witness the giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and leopards in the open grounds and near the River Galana.
This camp boasts stunning panoramas of varying terrains that include volcanic slopes, lava fields, and streams, Mzima Springs, where you can view hippos and crocodiles. Wildlife includes rhinoceros, elephants, and other hunters like lions and cheetahs.
Breakfast is followed by a morning game drive in all the three parks and then lunch after which there is an evening game drive. In Amboseli, you will be able to see the swamps, plains, and Observation Hill, which is ideal for a bird’s eye view.
Game drives in Tsavo East are centered on the large open plains and areas of interest such as the Lugard Falls and the Aruba Dam which are known to compel many animals.
Tsavo West’s itinerary usually involves a trip to Mzima Springs to view aquatic animals through an underwater glass bungalow, hiking on the Shetani Lava Flow, and a visit to the Rhino Sanctuary.
Mid-range facilities for the safari entail staying in well-furnished lodges and tented camps with private bathrooms and amenities.
Depending on preference, you can spend the night in a lodge with views of Mount Kilimanjaro after a day in Amboseli, or you could spend the night in a camp that is located in the middle of the savannah.
There is gazette accommodation in form of lodges and camps and these are usually situated at vantage points such as near water sources, which provide an opportunity to sight animals, since they always flock around water sources.
Most of the Tsavo West lodges and camps may offer additional attractions such as Mzima Springs or Chyulu Hills view to make the travelers’ stay as comfortable and engaging as possible.
Dress lightly in light-colored clothes during the day when the sun is warmer and carry a warm cloth especially during early morning and night in Amboseli. Sturdy but comfortable shoes are required for moving around lodge zones and short hikes.
Take a hat, sunglasses, and some sunscreen to safeguard your skin from the heat of the sun, and insect repellent to keep the mosquitoes at bay.
Never leave behind your camera, binoculars, and other memory cards that will be useful in capturing the wildlife in the Amboseli, Tsavo East, and Tsavo West national parks. Toiletries like toothbrush, barber kit, comb, deodorant, hand sanitizer, spare clothing, a refillable water bottle, and prescribed medication.
The best time for the trip is during the dry seasons in June to October and January to February since animals congregate near water troughs in Amboseli, Tsavo East, and Tsavo West. These months also provide better views because dust and haze are less in the sky; thus, it is easy to see Mount Kilimanjaro in Amboseli.
During the wet season, the parks are green, which gives a good view but it is difficult to access some parts due to the movements of animals and the muddy ground that makes the roads impassable. However, birdwatching can be done during this time due to the arriving migratory species.
Yes, the 4-day safari is good for families with kids since Amboseli, Tsavo East, and Tsavo West offer a variety of terrains and attractive wildlife sightings. A lot of the lodges and the camps have facilities that can comfortably accommodate families as there are usually big rooms or tents that are side by side.
The kids will find the game drives interesting and seeing elephants, lions, and other wildlife, as well as visiting places such as the Mzima Springs that is located in Tsavo West National Park. However, there are restrictions and precautions that have to be observed, like not leaving the vehicle during game drives, for instance, and always obeying the guide.
Children should carry snacks, toys, and anything else they would require to feel comfortable during the drives by their parents.
