The Main Escarpment
The dramatic escarpment is the defining feature of the Simien Mountains, offering breathtaking panoramic views across towering cliffs and deep valleys. It is one of the best places for hiking, photography, and spotting endemic wildlife. Sunrise and sunset create especially spectacular scenery from the viewpoints.
Sankaber Camp
Sankaber serves as one of the most popular starting points for trekking through the national park. The surrounding grasslands attract troops of gelada baboons, while nearby cliffs provide excellent opportunities to spot birds of prey. It is an ideal introduction to the mountain landscape.
Geech Camp
Geech Camp lies in an open alpine meadow surrounded by sweeping mountain scenery. It is a favourite overnight stop for multi-day treks thanks to its peaceful setting and beautiful sunsets. Wildlife is commonly seen grazing nearby in the early morning and evening.
Imet Gogo Viewpoint
Regarded as one of the park's finest viewpoints, Imet Gogo offers unforgettable views over rugged valleys and towering escarpments. The hike to the viewpoint is rewarding without being overly demanding. Photographers particularly appreciate the ever-changing mountain light.
Chenek Camp
Chenek Camp sits at a higher elevation where visitors have an excellent chance of seeing the endangered Walia ibex. The surrounding cliffs also attract Ethiopian wolves and numerous birds of prey. The scenery here is among the most dramatic in the park.
Bwahit Peak
Standing at over 4,400 metres, Bwahit Peak rewards determined hikers with magnificent views across the Simien range. The climb passes through varied landscapes rich in alpine vegetation. It is one of the park's most rewarding high-altitude adventures.
Ras Dashen
As Ethiopia's highest mountain, Ras Dashen is the ultimate trekking destination within the Simien Mountains. Reaching the summit requires several days of hiking through remote wilderness and traditional villages. The accomplishment is matched by unforgettable mountain scenery.
Jinbar Waterfall
Jinbar Waterfall plunges hundreds of metres into a dramatic gorge, creating one of the park's most scenic natural attractions. The hike to the viewpoint passes through beautiful highland landscapes filled with endemic plants. Mist rising from the falls often creates colourful rainbows.
Buyit Ras
Buyit Ras provides one of the first spectacular viewpoints encountered by visitors entering the park. Wide vistas stretch across mountain ridges, valleys, and cliffs. It is an excellent location for short walks and scenic photography.
Silki Yared
Silki Yared is one of the highest accessible points in the Simien Mountains National Park. Hikers enjoy panoramic views over endless mountain ridges and deep canyons. The route also offers opportunities to encounter rare wildlife along the way.
Mesarerya
Mesarerya is a peaceful area known for its dramatic landscapes and traditional trekking routes. It offers a quieter alternative for travellers seeking fewer crowds. The surrounding scenery showcases the rugged beauty that defines the Simien Mountains.
Aynameda
Aynameda features open grasslands and striking viewpoints overlooking steep valleys. The area supports populations of gelada baboons and various bird species. Its peaceful atmosphere makes it a rewarding stop during longer hiking itineraries.
Adi Arkay
Located near the western approaches to the mountains, Adi Arkay serves as an important gateway for trekkers heading toward Ras Dashen. Visitors can experience authentic rural Ethiopian culture while preparing for their mountain adventure. The surrounding countryside is both scenic and welcoming.
Debark
