Best Time To Visit Skeleton Coast

The ideal time to visit the Skeleton Coast is during the dry season—from May through October—when the weather is cooler, wildlife concentrations are higher, and visibility is excellent.

Skeleton Coast Safari in January

Hot, humid, and often with coastal mist. Inland areas swelter, and many rivers are full. Wildlife is more dispersed, but birdlife thrives. Not ideal for dusty 4×4 travel.

Skeleton Coast Safari in February

Very similar to January: heat remains high, rains may swell seasonal rivers, and some roads become difficult. Good for observing migrant birds, though.

Skeleton Coast Safari in March

Transitional period: the tail end of rains inland, temperate along the coast. Some areas may still be inaccessible due to water flows, but landscapes are lush and dramatic.

Skeleton Coast Safari in April

A drying out is underway. Vegetation starts to brown, rivers recede, and conditions begin improving for travel. More wildlife gathers around remaining water sources.

Skeleton Coast Safari in May

One of the best months to visit—cooler, dry weather, clear skies. Wildlife congregates; landscapes are crisp. Days are comfortable, nights cooler.

Skeleton Coast Safari in June

Dry, cool, and usually very pleasant. Great visibility. Desert becomes more alive around waterholes. An excellent time for long days of exploration.

Skeleton Coast Safari in July

Peak of the dry season. Wildlife is easiest to spot around permanent water. Nights cold, especially inland; coastal fogs may linger in mornings.

Botswana Safari in August

Still dry and cool. Good time for marine excursions. Desert heat starts creeping in midday. Best time for clear skies and sharp views.

Skeleton Coast Safari in September

Temperatures begin rising. Dryness persists. Wildlife remains concentrated, dust becomes more present. Good month for photography and fewer tourists.

Skeleton Coast Safari in October

Dry but warming significantly. Some heat haze inland; coastal areas slightly more comfortable. Good for desert walkers and beach‑based exploration, though afternoons can be hot.

Skeleton Coast Safari in November

Start of the short rains in some areas. Dust settles, occasional storms or showers inland. Coast remains comparatively stable. Some roads begin to degrade.

Skeleton Coast Safari in December

Rainy season fully kicking in inland. Coastal areas less affected but humidity and showers increase. Some remote access becomes tricky. Birdlife lively though.
