5-Day Serengeti Wildebeest Migration Camping Expedition

In the morning, your safari guide will pick you up from your Arusha accommodation. The drive on a well-maintained tarmac road crosses the scenic Maasai plains, dotted with acacia trees. Along the way, you'll observe Maasai people in vibrant attire walking, cycling, herding cattle, and driving donkey carts.

Tarangire is renowned for its vast elephant herds. From the open-roof vehicle, take in the seasonal swamps, savannahs, and the Tarangire River. You'll explore the diverse wildlife, including zebras, wildebeest, buffalos, elephants, and giraffes. Keep an eye out for lions on the prowl or leopards lounging in the trees.

After an extensive game drive, you'll exit the park and head to a nearby campsite. Nestled among trees with playful monkey troops, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in this picturesque setting.

After breakfast, you'll head towards the fertile highlands where the Iraqw people cultivate wheat, coffee, and corn. You'll traverse the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, featuring the stunning Ngorongoro caldera formed by a volcanic explosion three million years ago.

Witness the breathtaking expanse of the caldera before continuing to the Serengeti National Park, reaching it by midday. The Serengeti, meaning 'Endless Plain' in Maa, the Maasai language, is Tanzania's largest park, boasting diverse landscapes—grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah, and mountains.

Experience the grandeur of the largest wildebeest and zebra migration, with the chance to witness thousands of animals in search of food and water, depending on the season. Following an extensive game drive, you will head to your campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.

Dedicate the entire day to immersive game drives within the expansive Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti teems with diverse wildlife, including impalas, buffalo, crocodiles, and hippos. However, its fame is primarily attributed to the remarkable migrating herds of zebras and wildebeest.

The animals' journey is influenced by rainfall, exhibiting variations from year to year. In November and December, the herds transition from the northern region, characterized by woodlands and hills, to the southern grassy plains. During the lengthier rainy season from April to June, they return to the north. Beyond the migrating herds, there's the possibility of encountering predators like leopards, cheetahs, and lions, always nearby.

After an unforgettable day, you will return to your campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, you will head out for another game drive in the Serengeti. You might be able to spot the Big Five— lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard — before embarking on your journey to the Ngorongoro Crater.

The animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves offering you an uninterrupted wildlife viewing experience. Arriving at the edge of the crater, you will have your first glimpse of what awaits you the following day, glistening streams, open grassland, and an infinite amount of animals.
You will spend the night at a campsite directly on the crater’s edge with the orange glow of sunset surrounding you as you drift off to sleep.

Early risers are treated to breathtaking views of the sun rising over the crater's edge. Following a hearty breakfast, you will embark on a descent down the adventurous track into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa's seven wonders.
This remarkable ecosystem formed millions of years ago in a massive volcanic explosion, is 610 meters deep and spans approximately 260 square kilometers.
Boasting a dense animal population of around 25,000, the crater provides unparalleled game viewing in Tanzania's parks. Within minutes, encounter wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, elephants, and over 500 bird species. With a touch of luck, you might even spot the endangered black rhino grazing in the grass.

After lunch, you'll ascend the crater's steep walls and proceed to Arusha where your safari will end.
