Today mark your first Tanzania national park, the stunning, Tarangire Park. It is one of the most preferred parks for guides because of the size and relative isolation of the area, especially in the southern part. It is well known for the concentration of elephants in the park. Wildebeest, zebra, impala, giraffe, eland and buffalo occur in reasonable numbers while gerenuk and the fringe-eared oryx are a local endemic and a rare sighting respectively. The first type of landscape is savanna characterized by hundreds of African prehistoric trees of life, baobab trees. You would tour the park in your own transport, though you may occasionally hire a driver/guide, you have a break for lunch in the middle of your game drive and then proceed to your designated camp early evening.

The best season to visit: It is during the Dry season which is from July to November because the Animals are in large numbers at the Tarangire River.

The journey from Karatu to the Serengeti will reveal more expansive green inclined land and flat lowland country. As far as the eye can see, the expanse of the landscape and the colors of the landscape go on for vast and desolate space revealing only small isolated settlements and round little brown thatch Maasai huts. Once you have entered Serengeti plains, you shall embark on a game drive while heading to your campsite. The southern part of the park is characterized by slight undulations of the grass-lands with occasional acacia sprouting on top of low lying rocks known as kopjes with good populations of resident game. Big cats prefer to have a good lookout point and the kopjes offers them that. This part of the System belongs to it when they calve, before they migrate northwards in enormous herds. This park presents a breathtaking array of terrains, and what you see depends on where you will be camping in the Serengeti.

When you trek from Karatu to Serengeti, you are able to traverse over undulating terrain of hills and lows. The horizon is flat in every given direction with nothing visible apart from a few shabby villages and dome-shaped Maasai huts. When arriving at the Serengeti, you begin with a game drive and proceed with your camp arrival. The park’s southern part comprises open plains of grassland occurrence; occasionally interrupted by the large rock formations known as kopjes which provides vantage grounds for big cats. It supports a resident wildlife population and is home to millions of wildebeests during the calving season before moving to the northern regions. The regions in Serengeti are unique and different; the landscape also changes according to the location that you take a stay in.
