Addis Ababa

Day 02 :

Debre Libanos Monastery

In the following morning, you and your driver will leave Addis early morning and drive to the outside of Addis, to visit an early 13th century monastery of Debre Libanos, established by the Ethiopian saint Abune Teklehaimanot. Though the original structure was burnt down to the ground by Mussolini’s troops, it remains a major place of worship and a very religious destination for the Ethiopian orthodox church. In addition, packs of the local Gelada Baboon can be spotted from time to time. There is a vantage point that offers one of the most beautiful sights – the Blue Nile Gorge that rivals the Grand Canyon of America.

Wenchi Crater Lake

This is a full day trip from Addis Ababa through the fertile and mountainous country side of Oromo people to reach the scenically beautiful site of Lake Wenchi.
One of these islands in at the lowest part of Lake Wenchi, has a Monastery that was established in the 16th Century, and tourists can only access the area by bare foot or by riding on mules and boat rides.
You will learn how ‘Kocho’ bread and ‘Bulla’ porridge is being processed from the Enset or False Banana tree which is key staple food for a significant segment of the Ethiopia civilization in southern Ethiopia.
