Volcanoes National Park: Home of the Majestic Mountain Gorillas

Nestled in the heart of the Virunga Mountains, Volcanoes National Park is world-renowned for its rare and awe-inspiring mountain gorillas. With its dramatic volcanic peaks, misty forests, and rich biodiversity, the park offers one of Africa’s most unique and unforgettable wildlife experiences.

Before venturing into the park, begin with a Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial for a powerful insight into the country’s history. From there, journey to Musanze, located at the foothills of the Virunga Mountains.

While in Musanze, visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Museum, where you’ll learn about the life and legacy of Dian Fossey. Her groundbreaking work at the Karisoke Research Center helped protect mountain gorillas and inspired global conservation efforts, famously portrayed in Gorillas in the Mist.

After breakfast, head into the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park for an exciting trek in search of the rare golden monkeys. Spend an hour observing these lively primates as they leap through the trees, forage for bamboo, and interact playfully in their natural habitat.

After the trek, visit a cultural center to learn about the traditions and history of the Batwa Indigenous community. Depending on your schedule, you will then either return to Kigali for an overnight stay or be transferred directly to the airport for your departure.
