Overview

This natural spectacle is a top bucket list item for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers alike, offering an extraordinary opportunity to witness one of nature's most awe-inspiring events.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra embark on a remarkable journey across the vast Serengeti plains in search of fresh grazing lands. This mass movement, known as the Great Migration, is a testament to the resilience and instinctual behavior of these iconic African animals. As they traverse the savannas, crossing rivers and grasslands, they create a breathtaking spectacle that is unparalleled in the natural world.

The Great Migration also attracts a multitude of agile predators, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas, who follow the herds in search of weaker prey. This dynamic interaction between prey and predator adds another layer of drama and excitement to the migration, showcasing the circle of life in the African savannah.

As a wildlife photographer, capturing the true beauty of this phenomenon requires not only skill and patience but also the right vantage points and opportunities. Our expert guides and drivers at Exodus Safaris ensure that you have the perfect view and positioning to capture the most stunning shots of the Great Migration. From strategic game drives to elevated viewpoints, we strive to enhance your photography experience and help you create unforgettable images of this natural wonder.

Tour Plan

Day 01 Arrival in Arusha

I will send a driver to Kilimanjaro International Airport to meet you. The drive to the hotel should take about an hour and when you arrive, our professional guide will provide you with a detailed overview of what your safari schedule looks like according to your itinerary.

Day 02 Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After your morning meal, you'll set off for Tarangire National Park (120 kilometers from Arusha). This place features a range of landscapes and wildlife, famously known for its elephant herds that visitors can observe in great detail.

In addition to elephants, Lions, Warthogs, Antelope, Zebras, and Giraffes call this park home, in addition to an assortment of birds. Keep your eyes on the treetops and you may catch sight of a leopard or a python coiled around a tree.

Day 03 Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park

Get ready for a wild African adventure and take a trip to Lake Manyara National Park. This narrow strip of land located between the majestic cliffs of the Gregory Rift Valley and the lake itself is a sight to behold. Measuring only 205 square miles in size, the park packs an exciting punch with its tree-climbing lions, large colonies of baboons, and blue monkeys. Birdwatchers will be delighted as flamingos flock to the lake in huge numbers at certain times of the year. But that's not all; the park hosts large herds of buffaloes, plenty of elephants and over 450 other birds species. Come explore this stunning corner of the African continent!

Day 04 Cultural Program & Social Activity

Spend two days in the wondrous Ndutu Plains and be surrounded by the high densities of cheetahs and lions, usually on view from December to March.

The vast plains are home to two stunning sodic lakes, whilst being part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area you have the unique opportunity to go off-road and get up close to Africa's majestic wildlife.

Wander amongst the wildebeest, who are drawn to the area due to the phosphorus-rich soil which is essential for lactating mothers.

As night falls, there is no better place to be than sat around a campfire, beneath a star-lit sky and listening to the traditional night sounds of the area.

Day 05-06 Ndutu Plains

After breakfast, you'll begin your descent into Ngorongoro Crater, giving you another chance to witness the spectacular wildlife that inhabits it.

During lunchtime, you can take in the breathtaking view of the crater from the rim, which reaches a height of 2,286 meters. After that, you'll be able to explore the forests, grasslands and lakes inside the caldera, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.

In the words of Bernhard Grzimek, it is truly a "wonder of the world!" Take a chance to spot zebras, wildebeests, rhinos, elephants, lions, cheetahs and hippos as you marvel at this amazing landscape. As the day draws to a close, ascend the crater walls and journey to Lake Eyasi for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 07 Ndutu to Ngorongoro Crater

Rise and shine early this morning to take in one of the most beautiful sights in the world: a stunning sunrise amid Ndutu's game drive.

After taking it all in, return to the camp for a nourishing lunch before venturing off to the 8th Natural Wonder of the World: Ngorongoro. It's a special experience you won't soon forget.

Day 08 Ngorongoro Crater to Lake Eyasi

After breakfast, you'll begin your descent into Ngorongoro Crater, giving you another chance to witness the spectacular wildlife that inhabits it. During lunchtime, you can take in the breathtaking view of the crater from the rim, which reaches a height of 2,286 meters.

Day 09 Lake Eyasi

Get ready to greet the sun the day you visit the Hadzabe people, a tribe that has held onto their traditional and nomadic way of life in Africa. Learn more about their culture, then join them in either a hunt or a gathering excursion that will offer up incredible photo ops.

This special experience will be one of the most memorable moments of your safari. Discover the Hadzabe's way of life and explore Lake Eyasi, a shallow salt lake situated in the Great Rift Valley, before setting up camp for the night.

Day 10 Lake Eyasi to West Kilimanjaro

Round off your safari experience and visit Osiligilai Maasai Lodge, a magical place perfect for rest and perspective. Located at the base of the remarkable Kilimanjaro and surrounded by the wild Maasai steppe, the lodge offers hand crafted furniture with stunning vistas of the continent's tallest mountain and the world's freestanding peak.

In the distant horizon, the savanna calls out to the Maasai people and invites you to learn about their culture, customs and rituals. During your stay in a traditional boma, take the time to relax and immerse yourself in Maasai history and traditions.
