After your morning meal, you'll start your journey from Arusha en route to the renowned Serengeti National Park. The drive itself is awe-inspiring, and you'll make a brief stop at the ledge of the Ngorongoro Crater to see an unparalleled view. Having the opportunity to take in this sight can be a truly unforgettable experience.Â
As you meander across the wild Serengeti, you will soon discover why the name literally means "endless plains". Covering an area of 6,900 sq miles (18,000 sq km), be prepared to be mesmerized by a seemingly never-ending landscape that will truly defy your understanding of space and distances. The park is home to the great migration, boasting over two million wildebeest, and various other animals such as zebras, impalas, Thomson's gazelles, and more. Avid explorers may also keep their eyes peeled for big cats like lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas who call this place home.
On this morning, we recommend rising early to experience one of the most spectacular sunrises and to go on a game drive when the animals are most active. After the game drive, we will return to camp for a delectable brunch and then make our way to Ngorongoro, the 8th Wonder of Nature. This 102 mile stretch of land is framed by lofty 2,000 ft high walls, making it a sanctuary for most of the native wildlife in East Africa. It is also one of the only areas where you can spot the rare black rhinoceros.
The crater is home to unparalleled concentrations of African wildlife, along with a river, a number of swamps, a lake frequented by flamingos, a forest and open plains. It is also renowned for its elephant population which are not just the largest in the continent, but boast enormous tusks due to the abundance of mineral-rich volcanic soil in the area.
We'll begin our journey early in the morning by descending into the crater to observe the impressive wildlife. After we take in the sights, we'll enjoy a picnic lunch near Hippo Lake. Once everyone's had their fill, we'll go on a brief game drive, before heading out towards Arusha National Park. We should return around 5pm, though if there is a flight to make or any other situation arises, we can adjust our schedule accordingly.
