Accessing Mikumi National Park is more convenient via road than Nyerere National Park, which requires those wishing to arrive by air to take a flight. Both parks have an abundance of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, and lions, among many other species. A safari to both Nyerere and Mikumi Parks is the perfect way to experience the Eastern Circuit of Tanzania in its natural wilderness state. This unique tour lets you explore two different ecosystems and see the wilds of Africa as they remain in their untouched form.
We will be picking you up from your hotel at 5:30 am and setting out on your journey from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi. Along the way, you will have a picnic lunch, while viewing the wildlife that lives in this area. On arrival at the Mikumi National Park entrance gate, you will observe multiple species of animals and birds, including lions, elands, hartebeest, buffalos, wildebeest, giraffe, zebras, elephants and wild dogs. You will also see many other types of birds. During your game drive, you can easily spot animals, as the terrain is mainly Savannah plain. Depending on the amount of time you have, you can finish your game drive within 4 to 5 hours. Later in the evening, you will enjoy dinner and a stay overnight at Bastian camp outside of the Mikumi National Park.
Following breakfast, an exploration of the Maasai culture is planned for 0900hrs. The trip to Nyerere National Park will take between 7 and 8 hours and a picnic lunch will be taken along the way. As we journey through uncharted terrain, breathtaking sights await your discovery. During our game drive, we shall have the opportunity to witness the indigenous wildlife of the area. After an evening meal, accommodation will be provided at African Safari Selous.
Spend the day game viewing in Nyerere National Park and make sure you don't miss out on the river cruise in the Rufiji River! Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness and keep an eye out for the rare Wild Dogs, Sable antelopes, black rhinoceros, Nile crocodiles, hippopotamuses and Eland. Birdwatchers will love the huge number of species at the park, and for those anglers among you, you might even be lucky enough to catch one of the fierce tiger fish or weighty catfish dwelling in the park's waters! In the evening, return to African safari selous for dinner and a restful overnight stay.
Let us set out early in the a.m. and go for a sunrise bush walk. Nothing quite compares to being in the wild and getting up close and personal with the many small species of animals that make their homes there. It's an invaluable experience, taking a 2-3 hour tramp through all the nature that surrounds you. Before leaving, let's enjoy a cup of tea and a delicious doughnut or homemade biscuit. When it's all over, we'll be able to drive back to the city of Dar es Salaam or take a boat ride to the island of Zanzibar if that is part of our itinerary.
