4-Day Madikwe Game Reserve Safari Tour

Arriving at (or transferring to) OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, you'll take a private road transfer to Madikwe River Lodge, located on the banks of the Groot Marico River in the heart of Madikwe Game Reserve.

You'll stay in one of Madikwe River Lodge's secluded, thatched chalets, set in amongst the riverine forest and decorated to create a rich African feel. Look out to views of the river from your own private deck or upgrade to a luxury suite to enjoy a private lounge area and outdoor shower.

Depending on your arrival time, you may be able to squeeze in an evening game drive with your Madikwe guide. The malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve is an ideal safari destination for families and also a photographer's dream due to the rugged terrain, bold colours and habituated wild animal species. Look out for the critically endangered African wild dog, which is extremely rare, but a signature species of the Madikwe Game Reserve.

Today, you'll explore Madikwe Game Reserve even further, with morning and evening game drives around this diverse and exciting conservation area.

The reserve’s grassland, forest and rocky Tshwene Tshwene hills are home to a variety of wildlife, such as elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, plus endangered African wild dogs. Hundreds of bird species can also be found here, including ostrich, vultures and the large kori bustard. Animals often gather at the Madikwe Dam to drink at sunset, which is the perfect spot for an evening game drive, complete with sundowners.
