Our team at ExodusSafaris will warmly welcome visitors upon arrival to JNIA in Dar es Salaam - the renowned "Port of Peace". We will brief you on the area and its history before heading to Mikumi National Park. Once there, guests can enjoy a delicious lunch, followed by checking into their rooms. The tour will then move to the Massai village, allowing visitors to experience some traditional dances and learn about their culture, food, life style and taboos.
As the sun sets, we will commence with a game drive, giving you the opportunity to observe a variety of animals such as elephants, giraffes, gazelles, and kudus, in addition to various bird species. You will have time to take in the natural beauty of the area until 18h30 when it is time to return for dinner and an overnight stay in the lodge.
After morning breakfast meal at 06:00AM, travelers can set off to observe the wildlife of Mikumi National Park. The Big Five - Lions, Elephants, Buffalos, and Leopards¹ may be seen. Rhino are slightly harder to come by, but Elands, Topis, Wildebeests, Zebras, and Antelopes can usually be found. A picnic lunch will be served under a Baobab tree. Afterwards, visitors may catch sight of Hippos and Crocodiles in their pool, weather permitting. Finally, dinner will be served before an overnight stay. ¹ Luck is required to view Leopards.
After breakfast, take a drive back to Dar es Salaam. This bustling port city has a long and interesting history - it began as a fishing village in the middle of the 19th century. Mzizima, meaning 'healthy town' in Kiswahili, was the original name of this small village that was established in 1857. Not only is it a thriving port, but the area is also used to cultivate cassava, maize, and millet.
Take a visit to Makumbusho Village Museum, which reveals more than half a century of Tanzanian life, featuring traditional straw and thatched houses. After an hour exploring the museum and learning about Tanzania's history, you can be dropped back off at your hotel.
