Day 01 Nairobi to Baringo – Kenya

Commencing from Nairobi, your journey unfolds amidst the breathtaking vistas of the Great Rift Valley as you venture towards your initial campsite. Take a moment to admire the splendor of Mount Longonot and Suswa, pausing for a leisurely lunch en route.

Upon reaching your destination, Lake Baringo awaits, renowned for its remarkable birdlife boasting over 450 species. Delight in the presence of weavers, sunbirds, and other wildlife inhabiting the camp surroundings, as dusk approaches and hippos emerge from the lake to graze. Keep an eye out for glimpses of crocodiles and lizards.

Unwind and savor dinner, inclusive of your stay, amidst the serene gardens with picturesque views.

Day 02 Baringo to Maralal – Kenya

Day two commences with an early morning excursion on the picturesque Lake Baringo, offering sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and a diverse array of bird species including Verreaux's eagle owls, hammerkops, storks, hornbills, and African fish eagles.

An added highlight is witnessing the Njemps people fishing in their traditional boats, providing a glimpse into their traditional way of life. Situated far from the tourist circuit, Lake Baringo stands as the northernmost Rift Valley Lake in Kenya, bordered by the Laikipia Escarpment and adorned with scattered small islands.

Later in the day, our journey continues towards the Samburu tribal area at Maralal, recognized as the unofficial capital of the cattle-herding people. This semi-nomadic community is renowned for their intricate beaded adornments and hosts the spectacular Maralal International Camel Derby annually between July and October.

A well-equipped campsite awaits us for the night, offering excellent facilities. Throughout the day, meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

Day 03 Maralal to Tuum – Kenya

On the third day of our tour, we'll kickstart the morning with a revitalizing early breakfast before gearing up for a journey through the picturesque Kenyan countryside. Our picnic lunch offers a serene pause, allowing us to soak in the stunning scenery.

In the afternoon, we'll rendezvous with local Samburu guides and their camels for a leisurely walk in this pristine natural expanse. Eventually, we reach the foothills of Mount Nyiro, where we'll settle in for the night.

Our lodging comprises a bush camp featuring basic amenities such as bucket showers and latrine toilets, ensuring a close connection with nature throughout our stay.

Meals provided encompass breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring our sustenance throughout the day.

Day 04 Tuum Camel safari – Kenya

Awaken to the radiant African sun on the fourth day, and indulge in a hearty breakfast before embarking into the invigorating morning air.

After fueling up the vehicles, embark on the route, traversing volcanic fields sculpted by ancient lava flows and reaching the edges of the arid Kaisut Desert. Passing through the quaint town of Baragoi, continue the journey to Lake Turkana, where you'll find refuge for the night in the village of Loiyangalani.

Settle into the campsite nestled along the southeast shore of the lake, shaded by graceful palm trees. Unwind, savor a drink at the bar, and marvel at the enchanting vista of the Jade Sea, as Lake Turkana is affectionately known.

Spanning an impressive 7000km², Lake Turkana stands as the largest alkaline water body and desert lake in Kenya's Great Rift Valley. The lake extends 288 kilometers northward into Kenya and slightly into Ethiopia.

For enhanced comfort and well-being amidst the warm temperatures, you have the option to upgrade to traditional bandas with beds at an additional cost.

Throughout the day, enjoy meals that include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring your nourishment and satisfaction.

Day 05 Lake Turkana – Kenya

Spend a day immersing yourself in the wonders of Lake Turkana, where you'll have the chance to explore the encompassing landscapes of volcanoes and deserts, punctuated by quaint traditional villages.

At the lodge, indulge in a refreshing dip in the lake or opt for extra-cost activities like boat tours to discover the local wildlife. A visit to El Molo, Loyangalani town, and a Turkana village offers invaluable insights into the people and culture of the region.

For nature and heritage enthusiasts, the Desert Museum and rock art sites await exploration with the guidance of knowledgeable experts. As the day draws to a close, gather for dinner at camp, sharing tales of our enriching adventures.

Included in the day's offerings are breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring a satisfying culinary experience throughout.

Day 06 Lake Turkana to Kalacha – Kenya

On the sixth morning, we greet the day with an early rise, enjoying breakfast before dismantling camp and hitting the highway. Journeying through the outskirts of the Chalbi Desert, we traverse towards North Horr, ultimately arriving at the oasis village of Kalacha. Nestled amidst the awe-inspiring desert terrain, Kalacha is home to the Gabbra people, a semi-nomadic culture of camel herders, offering an unforgettable experience.

Visitors have the opportunity to witness the incredible desert sunsets or opt for an optional performance by the local Gabbra people, available at an additional cost.

Accommodations for the night comprise traditional huts, providing respite from the intense sunlight and winds often encountered in the desert. Bathrooms are equipped with showers and latrine toilets. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included for a comprehensive culinary experience throughout the day.

Day 07 Kalacha to Marsabit – Kenya

Day seven begins with the gentle glow of the rising sun, casting a mesmerizing horizon over the Chalbi Desert. Following breakfast, we break camp and venture through the captivating landscapes of both the Chalbi and Kaisut deserts.

As we journey, be on the lookout for the vibrant Samburu and Rendille people adorned with intricate jewelry and beaded accessories. Our path leads us to Marsabit National Park for lunch, where we pause to admire the picturesque beauty of the desert, particularly the striking Gof Redo crater.

Surprisingly, the region around Marsabit is lush and wooded, a stark contrast to the arid desert plains. In fact, the name "Marsabit" translates to 'place of cold', reflecting its cooler temperatures.

We then proceed to Lake Paradise (subject to road conditions) and the lodges near Mount Marsabit, where sightings of buffalo, antelopes, and various wildlife and bird species, including majestic elephants with large tusks, lions, and kudu, are common.

After exploring the Eden-like landscapes of Marsabit National Park, we retire to our camp nestled at the base of Mount Marsabit to enjoy a hearty dinner. Remember to bundle up in warm clothing, as the nights often bring frigid temperatures and fog.

Meals provided include Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, ensuring a fulfilling culinary experience throughout our adventurous day.

Day 08 Marsabit to Samburu – Kenya

Begin your day with a delightful breakfast before we dismantle the campsite and venture towards Marsabit. Take the opportunity to explore the quaint town, mostly surrounded by the national park.

Subsequently, we journey south along the trans-African highway en route to the Samburu National Reserve. Indulge in a delectable lunch along the route before entering the reserve for an afternoon game drive. Witness a diverse array of animal species, including rare northern Kenyan animals such as Grevy's zebra, gerenuk antelope, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx. Keep an eye out for cheetahs, lions, and elephants in the area.

Later, we establish our camp at a semi-permanent site nestled under the trees or near the Ewaso (Uaso) Nyiro River. Before retiring for the night, refresh yourself with a revitalizing cold shower to wash off the dust from the day's adventures!

Meals provided encompass breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring you remain energized throughout the day.

Day 09 Samburu to Ol Pejeta Conservancy & Mt Kenya – Kenya

This morning, we'll savor our breakfast before embarking on our final game drive at the Samburu National Reserve. With a stroke of luck, we hope to witness a myriad of bird and animal species within this relatively undiscovered reserve before continuing our journey to the renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

Arriving at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the afternoon, we'll embark on a safari expedition through this intimate wildlife sanctuary. Here, we'll have the perfect opportunity to observe Africa's larger mammals.

Ol Pejeta boasts the largest population of black rhinos in East Africa and stands as the sole chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya. In addition to the Big Five (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, and leopard), the reserve is home to an impressive variety of plains game.

To culminate our journey, we'll establish camp in the foothills of Mount Kenya and gather for a communal dinner, a wonderful way to commemorate our African adventure.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day 10 Mt Kenya to Nairobi – Kenya

Begin your final day with a hearty breakfast amidst the refreshing chill of the Mount Kenya foothills. Optional activities are available (additional costs apply), including a nature walk, horseback riding, or a boat trip in the area.

Following a leisurely start, gather your belongings and dismantle camp before journeying southward to Nairobi. Your Lake Turkana & Northern Kenya Camping Safari concludes here, leaving you with indelible memories as you bid farewell and embark on your individual paths.
