3-Day Bwindi Gorilla Trek & Volcanoes Golden Monkey Tour

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from Kigali or Kigali International Airport, where your Hope Tours Africa guide warmly welcomes you. From there, enjoy a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park, passing through Rwanda’s famous rolling hills and charming rural villages.

You will arrive by midday at Grotta Resort, a peaceful retreat set on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains. After check-in, take time to relax and soak in the fresh mountain air, with optional walks around the lodge or views of the mist-covered volcanoes.

Spend the afternoon unwinding and preparing for the exciting golden monkey trekking experience scheduled for the next day.

Rise early for breakfast as mist drapes over the volcanic slopes of Volcanoes National Park, creating a magical atmosphere before your trek. Drive to the park headquarters for a briefing, then begin your 2–4 hour golden monkey trekking adventure through lush bamboo forests.

As you move deeper into the park, you’ll spot these rare primates leaping through the canopy, their golden coats shimmering in the filtered light. Spend an unforgettable hour observing their playful behavior before returning to the lodge for a short refreshment break.

Afterwards, depart for the Cyanika border and cross into Uganda, continuing a scenic 2-hour drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Arrive at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge by late afternoon, nestled at the edge of the rainforest. Check in, relax, and prepare for your gorilla trekking experience the following day as the sounds of the forest surround you.

Awaken early for breakfast as the rainforest around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park comes alive with morning sounds. After a short drive to the park headquarters for a briefing, begin your gorilla trekking adventure through dense jungle trails guided by expert trackers.

The trek can take 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once found, you will spend a powerful hour observing them in their natural habitat—watching them forage, play, and rest, offering a rare and deeply moving wildlife encounter.

Return to the lodge for a hearty lunch before beginning your journey back to Kigali via the Cyanika border. Arrive in the late afternoon and transfer to Kigali International Airport or your hotel, marking the end of your tour with unforgettable memories of Rwanda and Uganda’s primate experiences.
