3-Day Wildlife Safari to Awash National Park

In the morning, you will meet your guide in Addis Ababa and drive approximately 230 km to Awash National Park, located within the dramatic Ethiopian Great Rift Valley.

The journey takes you through striking volcanic landscapes, valleys, and rugged terrain, with visible lava fields and freshly formed earth on both sides of the road. Along the way, you will stop at the scenic Lake Beseka, a bird-rich habitat where you may spot species such as the pink-winged pelican, African fish eagle, saddle-billed stork, and many other water birds. This area is also home to the nomadic Kereyu people, who are often seen herding camels and livestock near water sources.

In the afternoon, you will continue into Awash National Park for a possible game drive and a visit to the impressive Awash Falls. Wildlife sightings may include oryx, baboons, greater and lesser kudu, warthogs, gazelles, and colobus monkeys. With some luck, you may even spot larger predators such as big cats.

In the evening, you will settle in for an overnight stay at Doho Lodge, surrounded by the natural beauty of the park.

In the morning, you will set out for an early game drive in the nearby Aledeghi Wildlife Reserve, a remote and wildlife-rich area where you may encounter olive baboons, Beisa oryx, Soemmerring’s gazelles, gerenuks, Grevy’s zebras, and waterbucks. Birdlife is also abundant, with possible sightings of kori bustards, Arabian bustards, and many other native species.

After the game drive, you will continue to the relaxing Doho Hot Springs, where Doho Lodge is located. The lodge overlooks Doho Lake, a natural lake formed by geothermal hot springs bubbling through the area.

The rest of the day is free for relaxation—soaking in the hot springs, enjoying the peaceful surroundings, or resting at the lodge. Optionally, you may also visit nearby nomadic Afar villages to experience the local culture and way of life.

You will spend the night at Doho Lodge, surrounded by the tranquil landscapes of the region.

In the morning, after some time at the lodge, you will begin your drive back to Addis Ababa via the express road, passing through the scenic town of Bishoftu (Debre Zeit).

En route, you will stop to explore the famous Bishoftu Crater Lakes, a series of beautiful volcanic lakes surrounded by lush landscapes. You may also relax briefly at one of the nearby lakeside resorts before continuing your journey.

You are expected to arrive in Addis Ababa in the late afternoon, marking the end of your trip.
