4-Day Adventure with Dian Fossey- Gorillas in the Mist

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by your private guide who will introduce you to the highlights of your Rwanda safari experience, including an optional visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

After lunch in Kigali, you will travel approximately 2.5 hours north to Ruhengeri (Musanze), the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and attend an informative talk with the Gorilla Doctors.

After a day of scenic travel through Rwanda’s beautiful landscapes, you can relax in the comfort of your lodge, unwinding by warm fireplaces in the lounge and dining area as you prepare for the next day’s adventure.

An extra-special gorilla tracking experience awaits in Volcanoes National Park, where you will be accompanied by a member of the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project (Gorilla Doctors) for a deeper conservation insight.

After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the park headquarters in Kinigi to register and be assigned to one of the habituated gorilla families. You will then begin your trek through the forest, with the unique opportunity to learn firsthand from the Gorilla Doctors about their daily work in protecting and monitoring mountain gorillas.

In the afternoon, depending on time and weather conditions, you may visit the scenic twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo or explore the local markets in Musanze, offering a glimpse into local life and culture.

Golden monkeys, often described as playful and curious primates, are a rare species found in the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. They are known for their energetic behavior, social nature, and striking golden-orange fur, making them one of the park’s most exciting wildlife encounters.

After your morning trek, the afternoon offers a rich cultural experience at Gorilla Guardians Village (formerly Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village). Here, you will interact with former poachers who have transformed their lives by embracing conservation and now share Rwandan traditions with visitors.

You will also enjoy performances by the Intore dancers, a traditional warrior dance troupe inspired by the royal victory dances of Rwanda’s ancient kings. This cultural visit provides a meaningful connection to local heritage and community conservation efforts.

Please note that check-out will be this morning. After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning at leisure and, if time allows, visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International Centre in Musanze to learn more about gorilla conservation efforts.

Following lunch, you will drive back to Kigali and proceed to Kigali International Airport in time to check in for your departure flight or onward journey.
