4-Day Gorillas, Golden Monkeys and Lake Bunyonyi

You will meet your driver-guide from Caracal Explorers at your hotel and begin your city tour of Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

Your first stop will be the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a solemn site that serves as the final resting place for over 250,000 victims of the 1994 genocide. Here, you will gain insight into Rwanda’s history and pay tribute to those who lost their lives.

Afterward, visit the bustling Kigali Central Market, where you can experience local life and explore a variety of goods. Enjoy lunch in the city before embarking on a scenic 3-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park.

Upon arrival, check in at your hotel, relax, and prepare for the exciting golden monkey trekking experience ahead.

After an early morning breakfast, you will head to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of golden monkey trekking.

You will then join a group of fellow trekkers and, accompanied by an experienced ranger guide, venture into the bamboo forests of the Virunga Volcanoes in search of the playful golden monkeys. Once located, you will spend an hour observing them as they leap through the trees, feed on young bamboo shoots, and interact in their natural habitat.

After this memorable experience, you will return to your lodge for lunch. Later, you will transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda, preparing for your next adventure.

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast, along with packed lunch and snacks, before heading to the park headquarters of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a briefing on gorilla trekking procedures and guidelines.

After the briefing, you will start your much-anticipated forest trek in search of mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. As you walk through the dense rainforest trails, you may encounter other wildlife such as forest elephants, bush pigs, forest hogs, duikers, olive baboons, and a variety of bird species.

Bwindi offers a very high chance of seeing mountain gorillas, often up to 95%, making it one of Africa’s most reliable gorilla trekking destinations. Once you locate a gorilla family, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing their behavior—feeding, nursing, and caring for their young. This is also your opportunity to take photos and videos of this rare experience.

After the trek, you will transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, the second deepest lake in Africa, where you will relax and enjoy an overnight stay surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

After breakfast, you will enjoy a canoeing experience on Lake Bunyonyi, exploring its scenic islands and calm waters while taking in the breathtaking surrounding landscapes.

Later, you will proceed to the Katuna border crossing to re-enter Rwanda. Upon arrival in Kigali, you will visit local craft markets for souvenir shopping and a final taste of Rwandan culture.

Finally, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight back home, marking the end of your unforgettable 4-day gorillas, golden monkeys, and Lake Bunyonyi safari adventure.
