Mt. Kenya presents a stunning vista of a wide, symmetrical volcanic cone with a diameter of 74 miles (120 km). At the heart of the mountain lies two peaks: Batian, standing proudly at 17,057 feet (5199 m), and Nelion at 17,021 feet (5188 m). Trekkers, however, can ascend to the almost-as-it summit of Lenana, reaching an elevation of 16,354 feet (4985 m).

An early morning departure from Nairobi kickstarts your journey to Chigoria, a drive of four to five hours. From there, you'll enter the Mt. Kenya Forest at an altitude of 5,249 feet (1600 m) and make your way up to 8,530 feet (2600 m).

Some experienced climbers may even opt to continue up to the park gate that rises to 9,678 feet (2950 m). Evening meals will be served around a open campfire after a day's walking of 8.5 miles (14 km).

Day 2: Today marks the second day of your trek and you'll be walking up to a secluded camping spot at Lake Ellis, some 11,154 feet (3400 m) above sea level. The terrain is mostly moorland and tussock grass, but is highlighted by the beautiful heather and proteas. In addition, when in the springtime, there are a variety of other blooms such as gladioli, kniphofia and Senecio. On this day, you can expect an elevation gain of 2,624 feet (800 m) over a distance of 8.5 miles (14 km).

Day 3: Today, the adventurous walk is far from the beaten path. Meander through the lake, traverse the valley and climb the ridge up a mountain for three hours until the standard Chogoria route at a height of 13,451 feet (4,100 m) appears. Splendid scenery overlooking the Gorges Valley and in the opposite direction to Itinguni and the Northern Moorlands will take your breath away. Lunch is had at a minute stream crossing before progressing to Minto's Hut, the camp for the night, which stands tall at 13,779 feet (4200 m).

Take some time to make a trek to the "Temple" if you can spare the energy. This massive mountain face is named for the way viewers look over the edge - they appear as though they are on bended knee in prayer! Rest up early as there's a 2,624-foot (800 m) climb ahead of you throughout the 8 kilometers (5 miles).

Day 4: Today, you'll cover a total distance of around 12.5 miles (20 km). This is a considerable amount of time and effort, but it will be worth it when you reach the summit! Start off your amazing day with a hot beverage and a light snack, then head out no later than 2:30am to make the most of the walk in the dark. When you get to the top, you'll be treated to a spectacular view of the sunrise. Make sure that you get to Pt Lenana via Simba Col in time for first light.

Make your descent down the Sirimon Track to Shipton's Camp and enjoy a second breakfast before you set off on a journey of 6-7 hours to Judmier Camp. Walk a different route than usual to complete your journey down the peak.

Day 5: Today, you'll have a leisurely morning with breakfast before making your last hike of the trip - six miles (10 km) down a dirt track to the park gate. There, you will meet your transport to take you back to Nairobi, stopping for lunch at a riverside camp along the way. Your journey will end with a stay at Lake Naivasha for the evening. Adieu to your guides and porters, as you depart the area.

Get up early and embark on a boat tour of Lake Naivasha for an up-close look at hippos, waterbucks and a plentiful variety of birds. Admire the abundance of wildlife from a safe distance on an enjoyable walking safari around Crescent Island - home to giraffes, zebras and other animals that are not exposed to any danger from large predators.

Other activities you may engage in include;

• Explore the lake's conservancy land and take in the sights of zebras, giraffes, and other animals.
• Visit a local Kenyon farmer's homestead to gain a deeper understanding of subsistence farming and socialize with their family for tea.
• End your safari with a visit to Hell's Gate National Park and discover its canyons and wildlife.

Today you'll embark on a drive lasting around 3.5 hours to Maji Moto Maasai Cultural Camp, where the traditional way of life of real Maasai people is still very much alive.

During your stay, you can join on walks with Maasai warriors, experience warrior training, visit a widow village, make beading, gather around a campfire, and dip into a hot spring. You may also get to see the community's projects, including a school, beekeeping conservation, and a tree nursery.

Embark on a journey across the plains that will lead you to a forest bush camp. Here, you will construct a Maasai temporary camp and sleep outdoors under the night sky. For dinner, savor an "Olpul"-style meal with warriors and elders, complete with traditional songs, tales, and blessings near a blazing campfire.

Enjoy the ceremonial local brew which is created with honey, aloe root, and herbs for special occasions. At the bush camp, you'll get to sleep on leafy beds in your sleeping bag beneath the stars and warriors will be guarding you throughout the evening.

Take a journey to the well-known Maasai Mara National Reserve, an African treasure renowned for its sprawling savannahs filled with wildlife. Dependable rainfall and vegetation provide sustenance for the myriad of herbivores that make this land their home, including zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, elephants, impalas and various species of gazelles. Predators such as cheetahs, leopards and an abundance of lions also inhabit this area.

The Mara is part of Tanzania’s Serengeti Plains, and is also surrounded by private and communal conservancies. Naboisho Conservancy is one such protected area, home to almost 70 lions and providing visitors with the chance to observe incredible animals up close. Enjoy night game drives, a walking safari and bush dinners during your stay in the Mara.

Drive out in the morning and take in the sights of the Maasai Mara Reserve on game drives and bush walks. Make sure to take a night game drive as well. If you are feeling adventurous, you have the option of taking a hot air balloon safari. You may get picked up before dawn and soar through the sky for an hour for an incredible view of the savanna! Upon landing, there will be breakfast waiting for you on the plains. Finish off the day with another game drive in the afternoon.

End your African getaway with a scenic early morning game drive, and then make your way back to Nairobi to hop on your flight back home.
