This mid-range tour offers lodges and hotels as accommodation. Furthermore, a private tour specifically for you can be organized, albeit the wildlife viewing activities may take place with other tour groups.

If availability allows, this itinerary can begin any day and minor changes to the accommodations and destinations can be made to customize the trip. Unfortunately, this exclusive tour is not available for solo travelers.

Finally, the minimum age for this tour is 12 years old.

Activities & Transportation

Going on an adventure in the wild is an experience like no other! There's nothing quite like taking a game drive in a pop-up-roof 4x4 vehicle or even a minivan, followed by a chimpanzee trekking tour and nature walks to explore the area.

Don't forget to take a boat trip for an added touch of excitement! And with airport transfers included, you needn't worry about the journey there.

Tour Plan

Day 01 Arrival Dar es Salaam Airport

Upon your arrival at Dar es Salaam International Airport, you will be greeted by a driver bearing a page board with your name prominently visible. After clearing customs and passport control, you can then step out of the terminal to meet them. From there, you can enjoy the tastes of Swahili Cuisine, have dinner and spend the night at the Dar es Salaam City Hotel.

Day 02 Flying from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma

You will be transported from your hotel to Dar es Salaam Airport, where you will board a flight to Kigoma with Air Tanzania. On arrival, you will be greeted by your driver guide. Afterward, you may explore the city on a guided tour, followed by lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, you will visit Ujiji Town and the Livingstone Memorial. The day ends with a sunset view of Lake Tanganyika, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 03 Ride to Gombe Stream National Park

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast and get ready for transfer to Kiberizi for an early morning dhow boat departure at 06h00. Depending on the type of boat, this journey should take anywhere from two to three hours to Gombe Stream National Park. Upon arrival, spend the full day exploring all that the park has to offer - go chimpanzee trekking, snorkeling, hiking and swimming. Enjoy the sunset and a leisurely dinner before settling in for the night at Tanapa Bandas, Cottages.

Day 04 Gombe Stream National Park

After taking a delicious breakfast and appreciating the sunrise from the other side of Lake Tanganyika's picturesque coastline, your next adventure will be a half-day chimpanzee expedition in Gombe Stream followed by lunch and a leisurely afternoon on the beach. Finally, you'll journey back to Kigoma City by dhow boat leaving from Kibirizi port. In the evening you can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the lakefront, sunset, dinner and restful night stay at Lake Tanganyika.

Day 05 Drive to Katavi National Park

Wake up early and get ready to take the drive to Katavi National Park through Uvinza, which can take around four to five hours. This beautiful nature reserve houses a numerous amount of hippos and vibrant birdlife. Katavi remains fairly untouched by humans and visiting this remote gem offers a spectacular insight into what Africa may have been like one hundred years ago. Once you've arrived, spend the evening taking in the sights of the park or have dinner, before spending the night there.

Day 06 Katavi National Park

After your morning meal, a full day exploration of Katavi National Park awaits! Home to numerous prides of lions, this dry-season reserve is one of Tanzania's most remote and untouched natural retreats. Enjoy a day of game viewing followed by a leisurely lunch at one of the park's picnic sites. In the evening, savor a scrumptious dinner and an overnight stay in Katavi.

Day 7 Katavi National Park

Today in Katavi is a magnificent experience, offering a variety of activities. Start your day off with a morning safari, then return for a relaxing morning before heading out for an exploration safari in the evening or enjoy a full-day adventure. Enjoy a midday picnic lunch, a leisurely afternoon, and a pleasant dinner in the park. Sleep well to rest up for the next day's journey.

Day 08 Drive to Lake Tanganyika

On the final morning of your stay in Katavi, you'll be taken on a game drive before departing for the beach at Lake Tanganyika. Spend the day enjoying the scenery and wildlife before arriving as a guest and leaving as a friend at the beautiful Lake Shore Lodge. Built right at the water's edge, this is the perfect spot for a magical, adventurous, and restful break on the lake. Enjoy a stunning sunset and a leisurely dinner, before spending the night in the lodge's comfortable chalets.

Day 09 Lake Tanganyika Beach

Enjoy a rejuvenating holiday in paradise where each day can be filled with adventure, relaxation or a combination of both. Join the Lake Tanganyika underwater exploration trip and safari. Enjoy swimming and water sports followed by wellness retreats. Cap off each day with a delicious dinner and an overnight stay at a lake shore lodge on Lake Tanganyika.

Day 10 Lake Tanganyika Beach

Welcome to the world's largest freshwater aquarium! Here, you'll find hundreds of cichlids and unique small islands, home to many endemic fish species, including the biggest cichlid of them all. Explore the depths of this expansive environment with a variety of activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, walking tours, and even mountain biking or birdwatching. End your adventure with an overnight stay at Lake Tanganyika's shore lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 11 Drive to Mbeya

Prepare for a memorable final breakfast at the picturesque shores of Lake Tanganyika. Then, you'll embark on a drive to Mbeya, making brief pauses to explore and admire the surrounding villages and scenery via the Tunduma border. Finally, end your day with a visit to the Mbozi Meteorite Site and a stay overnight in Mbeya.

Day 12 Explore Mbeya Highland

After enjoying your morning meal, today you will embark on a full day of exploration in Mbeya. Begin at Ngozi crater lake and take some time to explore the local markets, or join a coffee tour. Then visit the Songwe bat caves, where you can take a walk across the natural bridge and marvel at Kijungu and Kaporongwe waterfalls. Alternatively, you can also spend the afternoon strolling through coffee plantations, or simply find yourself immersed in rural Tanzanian life. In the evening, retreat to Mbeya for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 13 Kitulo National Park

Start your adventure in Mbeya with a hearty breakfast and then make your way to Kitulo National Park - dubbed "God's Garden" - for an unforgettable flower viewing experience. Enjoy a variety of activities like hiking, bird watching, game drives, and more. Don't forget to take a detour to Mafinga Highlands before you call it a day. End your journey with a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay at Kisolanza Old Farmhouse.

Day 14 Drive to Ruaha National Park

After breakfast, begin your journey to Iringa town and enjoy a delectable lunch from a local restaurant. On your way, take the opportunity to view many animals, such as elephants, giraffes, kudu, lions, leopards, jackals, hyenas, African wild dogs, and more. Arrive at your lodge and enjoy a game drive to really take in the sights.

Day 15 Ruaha National Park

Today is the perfect day for a Ruaha safari! Unique and unexplored ecosystems make this park, the second largest park in Tanzania, a truly special destination for wildlife spotting. It is also home to the Greater Kudu, a species which can only be found here. After a long day of game driving, cozy up in the Ruaha Hilltop Lodge or similar accommodations for dinner and an unforgettable overnight stay.

Day 16 Ruaha National Park

After breakfast, you will set off on an all-day game drive through Ruaha. This park, almost as large as the Serengeti and filled with unspoiled beauty, is a place of great excitement. With its 350 different species of birds, Ruaha is a true paradise for birdwatchers. Along the Great Ruaha River, many animals can be observed, such as waterbuck, impala and Grant's gazelle. Lions, leopards, jackals, hyenas and African wild dogs use this river as their permanent hunting ground. End your day by marveling at the breathtaking scenery found within Ruaha and drive back to your lodge.

Day 17 Drive to Mikumi National Park

After you've had your morning meal, you're off for a game drive in Ruaha. Along the way to the exit, you'll be stopping at some local eateries in Iringa for a hot lunch. As you move further along, you'll pass through farms, valleys, and villages with picturesque sights, including the magnificent views of The Great Rift Valley. Your late afternoon will be spent on a game drive in Mikumi National Park, where you have the chance to spot Elephants, Giraffes, Lions, Leopards, Jackals, and Hyenas. After a day of exciting wildlife spotting, you'll return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay in Mikumi.

Day 18 Mikumi National Park

Wake up to a leisurely breakfast, for today, you won't be in a rush. Embark on a full day game drive in Mikumi and enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. Uniquely, Mikumi is home to Giraffes that some naturalists believe to be a hybrid of reticulated and Maasai Giraffes. Other animals such as lions, elephants, buffalo, wildebeest, and leopards can also be spotted in this park. You'll also venture to the hippo pool to witness hippopotamuses in their natural habitat. Watch as elephants come to drink water from the nearby waterhole and observe the wildlife around you until sunset. Finish the day by having dinner and lodging in Mikumi.

Day 19 Dar es Salaam International airport

After taking breakfast, you will be heading back to Dar es Salaam international airport to begin your journey back home. Make sure to enjoy a farewell dinner near the airport before taking off on your international flight. If necessary, transportation can be arranged from Mikumi to Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar.
