Upon arrival at Goba Airport aboard flight ET175, our team will be ready to welcome you and accompany you to the gateway of the Bale Mountains, known as Dinsho. Here, embark on an adventure to explore the area and encounter its diverse inhabitants. Keep an eye out for the warthog, mountain nyala, Menelik’s bushbuck, and Bohor reedbuck, as well as numerous unique bird species native to Ethiopia and Abyssinia.
Following a satisfying breakfast, your journey unfolds towards the Sanetti Plateau. Witness the dawn as it illuminates the landscape, offering a rare spectacle: the Ethiopian wolf, the world's rarest canid, commencing its hunt. Renowned as Ethiopia's premier destination for observing this remarkable creature, the winding track across the escarpment, one of Africa's highest all-weather paths, offers an ideal vantage point. The plateau is also inhabited by giant molerats, exclusive to the Bale Mountains.
Next on your itinerary is Tulu Dimtu, or the “Red Mountain”, towering at 4,377m. Nestled at its base is the quaint village of Rira, where you can unwind with local refreshments or embark on a brief forest hike (approximately 2 hours round-trip) to a canyon adorned with bamboo and two cascading waterfalls. During your excursion, stay alert for sightings of the colobus monkey and the elusive Bale monkey.
In the morning, consider a brief excursion from Rira to explore the Gushuralle Peak forest trail located in the southern part of the park. This trail, spanning two to three hours, meanders through a verdant bamboo forest towards the summit of Gushuralle, offering captivating vistas of the Harenna Forest. Stay vigilant to spot the diverse wildlife inhabiting the area, including Bale monkeys, Menelik's bushbucks, warthogs, colobus monkeys, and giant forest hogs. After completing the trek, return to Goba town and then proceed to the airport for your flight back to Addis.
