Day 01 Kigali – Rwanda

The Rwanda Gorillas, Wildlife & Cultural Tour commences with a seamless pick-up from Kigali International Airport, also referred to as Kanombe Airport. Upon arrival, you will be whisked away to your initial destination, a cozy accommodation nestled in the heart of Rwanda's capital, Kigali. For those arriving earlier, an optional Kigali City Tour awaits, offering a glimpse into the city's rich tapestry of sights and attractions, including the historic old city and the poignant Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre. Visitors are often struck by Kigali's pristine cleanliness and well-ordered infrastructure, distinguishing it from many other African cities. A modern hub exuding a vibrant ambiance and characterized by its warm and welcoming inhabitants, Kigali sets the stage for an immersive cultural experience. Following a delightful dinner at your comfortable lodgings, you can unwind and recharge, ready for the adventures that lie ahead.

Day 02 Kigali to Akagera National Park – Rwanda

Day two dawns with a hearty breakfast at our charming hotel, marking the commencement of our adventure. Our journey leads us to the lesser-known gem of Akagera National Park, renowned for its abundant wildlife encounters. Established in 1934, the park spans 1120km², encompassing a mosaic of habitats ranging from low-lying plains and grasslands to woodlands, wetlands, marshes, hills, and lakes. These expansive savannahs echo the quintessential African safari landscapes found in Tanzania and Kenya, diverging from Rwanda's characteristic hilly terrain.

As we venture through the game lodge nestled within Akagera National Park, a rich tapestry of wildlife and avian species native to the savannah-like environment unfolds before us. The opportunity to spot the iconic Big Five—lions, elephants, buffalos, giraffes, and zebras—is a highlight, complemented by sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and over 480 species of birds, including several endemic varieties.

After a day brimming with excitement and exploration, we retreat to our accommodation, offering the chance to unwind with a refreshing swim in the pool. Throughout this exhilarating excursion, meals are provided, ensuring a seamless and fulfilling experience for all.

Day 03 Lake Ihema & Akagera to Volcanoes National Park – Rwanda

Day three begins with an early rise as we embark on a serene boat tour aboard the comfortable vessel navigating the picturesque waters of Lake Ihema, nestled within Akagera National Park. As we glide along the shores adorned with papyrus, a vibrant tapestry of wildlife unfolds before us, including hippos, crocodiles, and an astounding array of over 550 bird species. From the majestic shoebill to the dazzling malachite kingfisher, the diversity of avian life adds to the breathtaking scenery.

Following our leisurely exploration, we set our course northwestward towards Volcanoes National Park, embarking on a scenic five-hour drive punctuated by captivating vistas and undulating hilly terrain. Upon reaching the quaint town of Musanze, formerly known as Ruhengeri, we settle into our accommodations, preparing to rejuvenate in anticipation of the extraordinary gorilla trekking expedition awaiting us on the morrow.

Day 04 Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the breathtaking Virunga Mountains to witness the endangered African mountain gorillas in their natural habitat—an experience destined to linger in your memory forever! With breakfast awaiting you bright and early, the day begins as you set off for the nearby village of Kinigi, home to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park. Here, park rangers will provide essential information on the regulations and protocols for gorilla trekking, ensuring a safe and enriching adventure. Equipped with knowledge from the briefing, you are poised to venture into the heart of the park.

Volcanoes National Park boasts a rich tapestry of biodiversity, hosting over 200 bird species and a plethora of rare endemic flora and fauna. Renowned for harboring the largest groups of habituated gorillas, it offers an unparalleled setting for trekking enthusiasts. Upon being assigned to one of the ten available gorilla groups, your journey commences. As you traverse the verdant forests, you'll witness the captivating behaviors of these majestic creatures up close, with the possibility of encountering a silverback—a truly exhilarating moment! Observing these highly social apes, strikingly akin to humans, is bound to inspire awe and wonder.

Following this extraordinary encounter, it's time to return to the park headquarters before transferring back to your accommodations. Settle in, reflect on the remarkable gorilla trek you've just experienced, and relish in a well-deserved meal, cherishing the memories of this remarkable adventure.

Day 05 Cultural Village & Kivu Lake

This morning commenced with a delightful breakfast before we embarked on a journey to the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village, nestled near Volcanoes National Park. Our leisurely stroll through the village offered a captivating glimpse into traditional Rwandan culture, where we had the privilege to witness local drumming, dancing, and even engaging bow and arrow demonstrations. Continuing our cultural exploration, we proceeded to the red rocks, where we immersed ourselves in the fascinating process of banana beer production, skillfully executed by the locals.

Our adventure then led us to Gisenyi, situated at the northern edge of Lake Kivu, the largest lake in Rwanda. Here, the afternoon unfolded amidst the tranquil sandy shores of this African Great Lake, nestled within the majestic East African Rift Valley and adorning the western border of Rwanda. Guests reveled in the idyllic scenery while lounging on the beach, soaking in the panoramic views and embracing the tropical ambiance.

As the day drew to a close, we settled into our accommodations for the night, savoring the memories of our enriching experiences. All meals for the day were thoughtfully provided, encompassing breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring a satisfying and memorable conclusion to our day of exploration and discovery.

Day 06 Lake Kivu to Kigali – Rwanda

The final day of the Rwanda Gorillas, Wildlife & Cultural Tour commences with a hearty morning meal, preparing us for the adventures ahead. Our journey takes us on a tranquil voyage across the serene waters of Lake Kivu, where we are treated to breathtaking views of the numerous isles that adorn its surface, adding to the allure of this picturesque setting.

After the soothing cruise, we bid farewell to the tranquil waters and return to the vibrant energy of Kigali city. From there, arrangements are made for your seamless transportation to Kigali International Airport, marking the beginning of your next destination.
