The Selenkay Conservancy covers a whopping 6070 hectares of wilderness, that was once used for grazing. Animals migrating from the park call this reserve home now, as less livestock is present and wildlife populations are growing.
The Maasai people are the rightful owners of this land, having leased it out in return for tourism benefits such as lease fees, payments per guest and job opportunities at safari camps.
These camps are intimate and are designed to accommodate smaller groups of visitors. The staff working in Selenkay are mostly all locals, having been trained as expert guides, trackers, cooks, and camp staff.
