Start your day early and head out for a journey to Lake Manyara National Park. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife along the way and you may be lucky enough to glimpse a majestic tree climbing lion or perhaps a leopard's tail! Spend the night under the grand canopy of stars, and make this second night in Tanzania an unforgettable experience.
Prepare to embark on a journey to the Serengeti National Park, a listed world heritage site. On the way, you'll enjoy a game drive and have the opportunity to observe wildlife along the path. The Serengeti is the ideal safari spot known for its pride of lions and leopards. Its name derives from the Maasai language "sirinetu," meaning "endless plains." During the annual migration, an estimated one million wildebeest, two hundred thousand zebras, and three hundred thousand Thomson's gazelles descend upon the Serengeti. Make your home for the night Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp, where you can spend your first evening in the Serengeti.
Today, begin on an all-day adventure of game drives through one of the oldest and most primitive ecosystems in existence. The Serengeti remains unchanged since it was established more than one million years ago. Explore its renowned rolling plains, wooded hills, towering termite mounds, rocky kopjes, and acacia tree-lined rivers. Depending on the season, you may have the opportunity to witness the spectacular Wildebeest Migration (occurring from December to July) or an abundance of predators (May through October).
Start an early-morning game drive before breakfast and then enjoy another one after lunch. Consider a visit to the famous Ngorongoro Crater, renowned for its vast wildlife, or choose to explore the history of mankind with a stop at Oldupai Gorge. This important archaeological site features 3.6 million-year-old hominid footprints embedded in the volcanic rock. End your day with a stay at the luxurious Lemala Ngorongoro Camp.
Now is the time to visit Ngorongoro Crater, the largest caldera in the world spanning nearly 100 miles. Here you can witness a plethora of animals, including the elusive black rhino that is native to Tanzania. In addition to the wildlife, you will find 40,000 Maasai pastoralists living alongside their cattle, goats, and sheep in a way that celebrates the harmony between humanity and nature. To top off your stay in Tanzania, spend your last night at the Tarangire Treetops Lodge for an experience you will never forget.
A game drive through the Tarangire National Park is the highlight of today. Home to a vast population of elephants, ancient baobab trees, and more wildlife than any area outside of the Serengeti, the dry season (June-Sept) sees animals coming from far away to take in the waters of the Tarangire River. When the day is done, your journey can continue on to Arusha, Moshi, or the airport.
