Upon arrival at Jinka Airport, you will begin your journey toward Turmi, passing through the lively Key Afer Market—one of the largest and most vibrant markets in the South Omo Valley. Here, you’ll witness a colorful gathering of different ethnic groups exchanging goods, livestock, and handmade crafts.

In the late afternoon, continue to a traditional Hamer village, where you will experience the daily life of the Hamer people, known for their warm hospitality and rich cultural heritage.

The Hamer are especially famous for their distinctive hairstyles and body adornments. These intricate styles, along with jewelry and decorations, are not just artistic expressions but also important cultural symbols that indicate age, marital status, wealth, and social standing within the community.

In the morning, you will drive from Turmi to Omorate, a remote settlement near the Omo River. From here, you’ll cross the river by a local boat to visit the Dassanech people (also known as the Galeb), who live in the lower Omo River region.

The Dassanech people are deeply connected to their ancestral lands, which include riverbanks, grasslands, and semi-arid plains. Their lifestyle is mainly based on pastoralism, agriculture, and fishing, reflecting their adaptation to the challenging environment.

After the visit, you will return to Turmi, where you’ll have time to explore a local village and experience daily life in the South Omo Valley. In the afternoon, you may also have the chance to witness a traditional Hamer wedding ceremony, depending on local events.

Later, you will continue your journey to Jinka for an overnight stay, resting after a culturally rich and adventurous day.

After breakfast, you will drive to Mago National Park to visit a traditional Mursi village. Here you will meet the Mursi people, one of the most well-known communities in the South Omo Valley, famous for their unique cultural traditions, especially the use of lower lip and earlobe plates as a form of cultural expression and identity.

You will have time to observe their way of life, learn about their customs, and experience the landscape of Mago, which is part of Ethiopia’s rich wildlife and cultural region.

After the visit, you will be transferred to Jinka Airport for your onward journey, marking the end of your South Omo cultural experience.
