3-Day Gonder City Tour and Trekking to Simien Mountains

We will meet you upon arrival at Gondar Airport and transfer you to your hotel for check-in and rest.

Later, your exploration begins at the historic Fasil Ghebbi, the royal enclosure that once served as a 17th-century imperial city. From here, you’ll enjoy views of the basalt stone palace of Emperor Fasilidas, the oldest structure in the complex, along with other remarkable sites such as the Library of Emperor Yohannes I, the elegant Emperor Bakaffa Salon, and the Queen’s Palace.

The journey continues to the stunning Debre Birhan Selassie Church, famous for its richly painted murals and ceiling artwork, regarded as some of the finest religious paintings in Ethiopia. Here, you’ll also hear fascinating legends tied to the sacred heritage of the site.

After a day filled with history and culture, you’ll return to your hotel in Gondar for dinner and an overnight stay, resting ahead of the next day’s adventure.

After a strong breakfast in Gondar, you’ll set off toward the highlands of northern Ethiopia, heading to Debark, the gateway to the breathtaking Simien Mountains National Park.

After a short stop in Debark, you’ll continue south into the park to reach Sankaber, sitting at about 3,100 meters above sea level. Here, you’ll embark on a 2–3 hour guided hike through dramatic landscapes in search of panoramic views of the Simien mountain ranges.

Along the trail, you’ll encounter unique highland flora such as heather, St. John’s wort, and the wild rose of Abyssinia. You may also come across Ethiopia’s famous gelada baboons, known for forming the largest baboon troops in the country.

After the hike, you’ll begin your drive back to Gondar, where you’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, resting after a rewarding day in the highlands.
