3-Day Sightseeing of Addis Ababa and Surroundings

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by a Yama Ethiopia Tours representative and transferred to your hotel to begin your exploration of Addis Ababa.

Your sightseeing starts with the famous National Museum of Ethiopia, home to the world-renowned fossil “Lucy,” one of the oldest human ancestors ever discovered. You’ll then visit the historic Holy Trinity Cathedral, an important religious landmark known for its beautiful architecture and royal tombs.

Continue to the scenic Entoto Hills, where you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the city and learn about its early history. From here, you can also glimpse the vast and lively Merkato, considered the largest open-air market in Africa.

Optionally, you may visit Unity Park inside the National Palace, at an additional cost of USD 50 per person.

After a full day of cultural discovery, you’ll return to your hotel for rest in Addis Ababa.

In the morning, you will meet your guide at your hotel in Addis Ababa for a short briefing before departing for a scenic drive to Debre Libanos Monastery, an important spiritual center of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. The monastery is linked to the legacy of Saint Tekle Haimanot, a revered 13th-century mystic known for his devotion and endurance.

Along the way, you’ll pass through the beautiful Sululta Plain, where you may spot diverse bird species such as black-winged plovers, wattled ibis, and blue-winged geese. You’ll also encounter one of Ethiopia’s unique wildlife highlights—the gelada baboon, often called the “bleeding-heart baboon,” found in large groups across the highlands.

Your journey continues with a visit to the historic Portuguese Bridge, a 16th-century stone bridge built during historic regional conflicts to connect Shewa and Gojjam. Enjoy a short walk around this scenic area, known for its dramatic gorge views and waterfalls.

After the excursion, you will return to Addis Ababa for a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony in a local village setting, before heading back to your hotel for the evening.

Enjoy a full-day excursion from Addis Ababa to the breathtaking Lake Wonchi, passing through scenic countryside and charming rural settlements west of the capital.

On the way, you’ll visit Gefersa Reservoir, a peaceful birdwatching spot home to a variety of water and migratory bird species. The journey continues through the lush Menagesha Suba Forest toward Ambo, famous for its natural sparkling mineral water.

From Ambo, you’ll drive through stunning highland scenery to reach the crater of Lake Wonchi. From the hilltops, enjoy panoramic views of the lake and the island monastery nestled within it. You’ll then descend for a hike down to the lakeshore, where you can take a boat ride to visit the island church surrounded by calm waters and dramatic landscapes.

Optional activities include horse riding and hiking around the crater rim for even more spectacular views. In the late afternoon, you’ll return to Addis Ababa for drop-off at your hotel or transfer to the airport, marking the end of your memorable day trip.
