3-Day Wildlife Safari at Akagera National Park

After breakfast, your driver-guide from Lion Safaris will pick you up from your home, hotel, or Kigali International Airport and begin the journey to the Eastern Province of Rwanda, where Akagera National Park is located.

Upon arrival at the park reception, you will complete registration and proceed to check in at Ruzizi Tented Lodge. Enjoy lunch at the lodge before heading out for an afternoon game drive in search of wildlife such as zebras, antelopes, and buffaloes.

After the game drive, continue to Lake Ihema for a relaxing boat trip. During this 1.5-hour excursion, you may spot hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of water birds around the scenic Nyirabiyoro Islands.

Later, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay, surrounded by the tranquil wilderness of the park.

After breakfast, with your packed lunch ready, your driver-guide will pick you up for a full-day game drive in Akagera National Park.

You will explore the park from the southern to the northern sector, where wildlife sightings are often more concentrated depending on the season. Along the way, you will pass through open plains such as Kilala and Mohana, known for their rich wildlife. Expect to see animals like elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and various antelope species.

Midday, you will stop at a scenic picnic site to enjoy your packed lunch while taking in the surrounding landscapes. Afterward, continue with your game drive as you slowly make your way back toward the southern part of the park, keeping an eye out for any additional wildlife sightings.

In the evening, prepare for an exciting night game drive, which offers a chance to spot nocturnal animals such as leopards, hyenas, genet cats, aardvarks, jackals, and owls.

After the night safari, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay, ending a full day of wildlife exploration.

This final drive offers another opportunity to spot any wildlife you may have missed, while enjoying the peaceful morning atmosphere of the park.

Afterward, you will begin your journey back to Kigali, where you will be dropped off at your hotel, residence, or at Kigali International Airport depending on your departure schedule, marking the end of your safari.
