4-Day Rwanda Gorillas and Lake Kivu Tour

You will be welcomed by our driver guide in Kigali and begin a guided tour through the city’s fast-growing neighborhoods that are reshaping its modern skyline. You’ll also visit the former presidential residence at the presidential museum, where you can learn about Rwanda’s political history and past leadership.

The journey continues through Kigali’s older residential and commercial areas, with a meaningful stop at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, dedicated to the victims of the 1994 genocide. After lunch, you proceed to Musanze. If time allows, you’ll visit the scenic Twin Lakes—Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo—where deep blue waters, rolling hills, waterfalls, and views of the Virunga volcanoes create a breathtaking backdrop for your overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, you will head to the Kinigi Park Headquarters to meet your guides and complete park formalities before beginning a once-in-a-lifetime mountain gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park. Once you find the gorillas, you’ll spend an unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat.

After the trek, return to your hotel for lunch and relaxation. Later in the afternoon, you may visit the Iby'iwacu Cultural Village to experience Rwanda’s rich traditions, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will proceed to the Kinigi Park Headquarters where you will meet your guides for golden monkey tracking in the nearby Volcanoes National Park. After an exciting trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, transfer to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi. The day ends with a short but scenic hiking trail along the lakeshore, passing through vibrant local communities and enjoying stunning views of the water. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

After breakfast, enjoy a morning boat ride on Lake Kivu, where you can spot various bird species and take in the calm scenery. The lake is safe for swimming, with no hippos, crocodiles, or bilharzia, making it one of the most refreshing natural swim spots in the region.

You’ll also visit the hot springs and the historic Punishment Island (Lake Kivu), known for its cultural history. Continue to Nyamirundi Island, home to a large coffee plantation, where you’ll learn the full coffee-making process—from harvesting and roasting to tasting fresh Rwandan coffee.

Later, drive back to Kigali for your flight departure, marking the end of your journey.
