4-Day Uganda Gorillas, Golden Monkeys & Lake Bunyonyi

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport in the morning, your driver-guide will meet and transfer you to begin your adventure with golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park.

This activity is similar to gorilla trekking but generally less strenuous, as it takes place in the bamboo forests where the golden monkeys are found. Once located, you will spend one memorable hour observing their playful behavior and movements in their natural habitat.

After the experience, you will continue your journey and cross into Uganda via either the Cyanika or Gatuna border posts. From there, you proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for your next adventure.

After an early morning breakfast, you will meet your driver and proceed to the park headquarters in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi starts at around 8:00 am and can take between 1 to 8 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. The closer the gorillas are to their previous nesting site, the shorter the trek. Each gorilla family is visited by a maximum of 8 people per day, making the experience exclusive and well-managed.

The trek involves hiking through dense forest trails in search of these remarkable primates—one of Uganda’s most thrilling wildlife experiences. Once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour in their presence, observing and photographing them (without using flash photography).

This is the day to explore Uganda’s deepest lake. After a relaxed breakfast at your lodge, you will transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for a scenic boat ride.

The experience offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and islands, along with excellent birdwatching opportunities. Lake Bunyonyi is home to thousands of bird species, including grey crowned cranes, herons, weavers, African harrier hawks, egrets, cardinal woodpeckers, and kingfishers.

During the boat ride, you will also explore some of the lake’s 27 historical islands, each with its own cultural and historical significance, making it a peaceful and enriching experience.

After a relaxed morning breakfast at your lodge, you will begin your journey to Kigali, Rwanda’s vibrant capital. Enjoy the scenic drive through rolling hills and beautiful countryside along the way.

Upon arrival, you will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will learn about the 1994 genocide and pay respects to the thousands of lives lost, with exhibits and memorial spaces dedicated to their memory.

After the visit, enjoy lunch at a hotel in Kigali. Later, your driver will transfer you either to your hotel or to Kigali International Airport for your outbound departure, marking the end of your journey.
