5-Day Uganda Gorilla and Rwanda Golden Monkey Trek Tour

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will complete immigration formalities and be warmly welcomed by your safari driver. After a short briefing about your tour, you’ll be transferred to your booked accommodation in Kigali. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and unwinding as you prepare for the exciting adventure ahead.

After breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, you’ll meet our company representative and be introduced to your safari driver-guide, who will give a short briefing about the journey ahead. You’ll then depart for Musanze, a scenic drive of about two hours.

If time allows, enjoy a brief Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about the events of the 1994 genocide. After lunch, continue your drive to Kinigi, arriving at your lodge in time for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, head to Volcanoes National Park for your golden monkey trekking experience, with the briefing starting at 6:40 am. Similar to gorilla trekking but less strenuous, this activity offers a chance to encounter the rare and endangered golden monkeys in their natural habitat. The park is home to two habituated troops, each with about 50 members, found in the bamboo forests at the base of the volcanoes. Once located, you’ll spend up to one hour observing and photographing these lively primates.

After the trek, enjoy lunch before continuing your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda, a scenic drive of approximately three hours. Arrive at your lodge in time for dinner and an overnight stay.

Start your day with an early cup of coffee before heading for a briefing by the Uganda Wildlife officials. You’ll then proceed to the trekking starting point and, after a short orientation, venture into the forest in search of the elusive mountain gorillas.

Once you find them, you’ll spend a magical one hour observing these gentle giants up close—an unforgettable wildlife encounter. The trek can take a few hours or a full day depending on the gorillas’ movement, so a reasonable level of fitness is required, along with proper walking shoes, packed lunch, water, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a hat.

After your trekking experience, return to meet your guide and transfer back to your lodge. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at leisure, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

Enjoy an early breakfast before meeting your driver-guide and beginning your journey back to Kigali. Upon arrival, you’ll have lunch in the city.

Depending on your flight schedule, you will then be transferred to the airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your memorable safari experience.
